WED 60 YEARS
Louis Geresy, Jr., and Barbara Jones were married at Covey Hill Baptist Church in Paw Paw on January 31, 1957. They are now celebrating 60 years of marriage. Mr. Geresy grow up on a farm on VanKal Road and attended Mattawan schools. Mrs. Geresy went to Kalamazoo schools, but spent summers with her grandparents on their farm, just two miles from the Geresys. After they were married, the couple resided in the Oshtemo area their entire lives. They have three children and their families nearby: Jim (Lisa) Geresy and son, Christian; Evonne (Rick) Grooten, and children, Sarah, Julie, Vicki, and Casey; Steve Geresy, and children Steve, Emma, and Taylor. The Geresys have nine great-grandchildren. Mr. Geresy worked for Borgess Hospital, and spent many years at the Georgia Pacific Paper Mill; then was a self-employed trucker and owner of a garbage company. Mrs. Geresy was a homemaker, and together they managed their farm on KL Avenue, where they grew grapes and asparagus, and raised animals, including the pigmy goats and llamas they still have. For over 10 years, Mrs. Geresy raised hundreds of different kinds of indoor birds, and was best known as the bird lady. They were longtime members of Covey Hill Baptist Church, but are currently members of Valley View Bible Church. The family is hoping to have a picnic party this summer.
