Good results for Gobles and Lawrence athletes in Regional meet

    GOBLES - Gobles hosted Region 31-4 track meet last Friday with 13 boys and girl teams in attendance. Athletes were looking to qualify for the state meet next weekend  in Baldwin.
    The boys Regional winner was Kalamazoo Hackett with 135 points. Rounding out the top five were: Kalamazoo Christian 102, Marcellus 84, Decatur 54, New Buffalo 48. Gobles placed sixth with 47 points and Lawrence was 10th with 21 points.
    Gobles’ Jimmy Sandahl had a great day, winning the 200m (23.89) and the 400m (52.76).  Gobles’ 4x400 relay team of Brady Dembinski, Eric Phillips, Ross Thorpe and Sandahl placed fourth (3:45.10).  Niles Devers was fourth in the 3200m run (10:36.23). The 4x100 relay team of Dembinski, Mickey Kohlert, Thorpe and San-dahl was third (46.89).  
    “I’ve really enjoyed working with this team,” said Gobles Coach Marc Kline. “It is younger than last year's and it has endured growing pains along the way, but it has been a fun group. I'm proud of their effort at Regionals!”  
    Lawrence’s Mason Smith was second in the 400m with (53.98); Daniel Gray, eighth in the 200m (25.73); and Isaiah Beiter was sixth in the 3200m run (10:45.33).
    For the girls, Marcellus was the winning team with 149 points, followed by Bridgman with 90, New Buffalo with 78, Kalamazoo Christian with 68, Gobles with 53,  Lawrence placed eighth with 40 points.  
    Gobles’ 4x100 relay team of Michaela Buxton, Lyndsey Rynd, Laurel Burke and Abby Sandahl won with a time of 55.75. Gobles’ Karlee Henderson placed fifth in the 100m hurdles (19.27) and 5th in the shot put (27-04). Keaghan Kelly placed fifth in both the 1600m run (6:18.73) and 3200m run (14:37.80). Laurel Burke placed fifth in the 200m dash (29.67) and Michaela Buxton placed fifth in the 100m dash (14.06).  
    “At this year’s Regional track meet, everyone’s hard work paid off,” said Gobles Coach Veronica Peterson.  “It was a night of personal success as our female athletes set personal records in 13 events. “Congratulations to the 4x100 team of Abby San-dhal, Lyndsey Rynd, Micha-ela Buxton and Laurel Burke as they took first on Friday and are the Regional Champions in that event.”
    Lawrence's Avery Curtis won the pole vault with a vault of 8-08 and placed fourth in the high jump with a jump of 4-10. The 4x400 relay team of Camilia Mancera, Savannah Peck, Jian Toy and Catalina Man-cera finished second  (4:40.55). Mancera was fourth in the 400m (1:06.55) and 800m run (2:39.90). Jian Toy was fourth in the 100m dash (13.97).
