Area teams in football playoffs

    Three local varsity football teams earned spots in the post-season playoffs and begin District play this weekend as they compete for a state championship.
    Mattawan (5-4) will travel to Grand Rapids to face Forest Hills Central (7-2) tonight (Friday). Kickoff is at 7 p.m.  A win will pit the Wildcats against the winner of the Portage Central (5-4) - Portage Northern (8-1)  matchup for a Division 2 Region 1 District title.
    Paw Paw (8-1) will host fellow Wolverine Confer-ence member Vicksburg (5-4) tonight (Friday) as the first step toward a Division 4 Region 2 District crown. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Falan Field. The winner of this matchup will play either Plainwell (5-4) or Marshall (5-4) for the trophy.
    Lawton takes its undefeated record into a Division 7 Region 3 District playoff contest tomorrow (Saturday). The Blue Devils (9-0) will entertain Centreville (6-3). Kickoff is at 2 p.m. in the Packer-Armstrong Sports Complex.  The victor will meet the winner of the Hartford (6-3)-Schoolcraft (8-1) contest in the championship round.
