Area man killed in heavy equipment accident

    ARLINGTON TWP. - A 40 year-old Hartford-Bloomingdale area man was killed Nov. 12, in Arlington Township, as a result of a heavy equipment accident, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
    Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said the man, who was not identified, was at a  commercial business property in the 51000 block of 28th Avenue in Arlington Township, where he had been pinned by a skid steer.
    At the scene, rescue personnel found that the victim had already been freed from the skid steer by co-workers, however he succumbed to his injuries at the scene, according to Abbott. The victim had been using the skid steer to move snow on the property. Abbott said he had completed the job, and was working under the bucket area of the skid steer to clean out snow near the pedals when the raised bucket came down and he was fatally pinned.
    Abbott said it is not believed to be suspicious in nature and is accidental, however, the incident remains under investigation.
    Assisting at the scene  was the Bangor Fire Department and Pride Care Ambulance.
