August events lined up at County Historical Museum

HISTORICAL MUSEUM GRANT - 	The Van Buren County Historical Society Board has received a $5,000 grant from the Pokagon Fund of New Buffalo, MI.    HARTFORD - The Van Buren Historical Museum has several events scheduled for this month, from paranormal  investigators to a murder mystery.
   On Aug. 11,  beginning at 7 p.m., ProMI Paranormals will  conduct a museum investigation. To pre-register, contact Tad Moody at (269) 621-2546. The cost is  $20, and is payable at the door.
   On Aug. 13, participants can put their crime scene investigation skills to work through a Murder Mystery, loosely based on the Tabor murders in Lawton in the 1900s.
   Museum hours on Aug. 13 will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the best detectives, who need not be present to receive a prize. General admission is $5 for ages 13 and older and $2 for ages 5 to 12.
   On Aug. 20, museum volunteer, Tad Moody, will give a presentation of the Van Buren County Poorhouse history, beginning at 2 p.m. General admission is $5 for ages 13 and older,  and $2  for ages 5 to 12.
   On Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum will celebrate Heritage Day. Those attending will have an opportunity to see pottery being made, and purchase it.
   There also will be demonstrations of candle making and rug weaving, visits to a log cabin, a variety of bath oils and jewelry, vintage tractors, a 1954 police car, a Motor Mouth food truck with a variety of food items, baked goods to eat or take home, and Mike Nelson will be on hand to display the blacksmith shop.
   The museum is currently seeking vendors for Heritage Day, as  well as  volunteers for general museum hours.
   The museum is open Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, from noon  to 5 p.m.
