SPOTLIGHT on students

Kathryn Simon of Paw Paw will perform with the Trine University, Angola, IN, Big Band, when the university’s jazz ensembles present their spring concert, April 16. Simon, who plays second trombone, is majoring in Exercise Science-Pre Physical Therapy.

Students from Lawton High School were among the more than 3,900 students and teachers from 59 high schools across the state to attend one of two matinee performances of the musical, “HAMILTON,” at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit. The local students were to see the musical Thursday and participate in a question and answer session with members of the show’s cast.
The opportunity was made available through the Hamilton Education Program, one of several history education programs offered by the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History. The Rockefeller Foundation provided an initial grant of $1.46 million that funded the educational partnership in New York City, and with the support of other charitable foundations, tickets cost the students just $10 each.

Brooklyn Deming, of Paw Paw, has been named to the Knox College, Galesburg, IL, Dean’s List of distinguished students for the 2019 Winter Term. To be named to the Dean’s List, a student must have earned a grade point average of 3.6 or better (on a 4.0 scale).
Deming is a graduate of Paw Paw High School.
