Taking time now to secure your mailbox for winter could prevent big headaches in sub-freezing temperatures, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Road Commission.
Acting Van Buren County Road  Commission Manager Greg Brucks, said, “Prepare your mailbox for winter by tightening screws and ensuring the post and box are secure enough to endure large amounts of thrown snow. If the mailbox or post moves when shaken, the box or post likely needs to be repaired or replaced.”
The Van Buren County Road Commission’s Mailbox Policy states that the Road Commission will replace a mailbox/post only when it is found that Road Commission equipment made direct contact with the mailbox; not when the box is knocked over by snow or slush that is thrown by the snow plow.

The Van Buren County Road Commission has launched SeeClickFix, a new app allowing area residents to report non-emergency road issues.
Residents and the motoring public can take a photo of a road issue, such as a pothole, give the location, add a description, and click “submit” to send requests directly to the Van Buren County Road Commission through SeeClickFix.
Road Commission Interim Managing Director/Op-erations Director, Greg Brucks, said,  “SeeClickFix makes it easier for staff at the Van Buren County Road Commission to identify and address road-related issues in a timely fashion.  SeeClickFix is a mobile app that lets citizens report issues on-the-go, and receive real time notifications when the service request has been updated.  This will not only serve to increase residents’  engagement by involving area residents in community dialogue, but will also improve the efficiency in which service requests are addressed.”
