Lawrence Ox Roast & Homecoming celebrates 35 years Labor Day weekend

    LAWRENCE - The 35th annual Lawrence Ox Roast & Homecoming festival will be held Aug. 31 - Sept. 2, with a variety of activities planned throughout the three-day weekend.
    Most of the activities are planned to take place in the Lawrence Village Park. Some events may charge a nominal fee.
    On Saturday, Sept. 1, the 20th annual Lawrence Ox Roast &  Homecoming Classic Car Show  will get underway at 10 a.m. A Truck ‘N Shine Show will also begin at 10 a.m. The car show will be held in downtown Lawrence, while the Truck N Shine Show  will be held a the Van Buren Intermediate School District parking lot.
    A lighted Fire Truck Apparatus and Semi-Truck Parade will take place at dusk in downtown Lawrence.  The line-up will be on East Red Arrow Highway, near Sill Farms Market.

    Also on Saturday, the fourth annual Lawrence Ox Roast and Homecoming Watermelon Walk and Run will be held, featuring a 5K walk, and 5K, 10K and 15K runs.
    Many food booths, as well as craft  vendors will be set up in the park throughout the weekend. The carnival and vendors will open Friday night at 8:30 p.m.
    Sunday’s events include a  Sunday morning church service in the park by East Arlington Baptist Church. A kids’ pedal pull will begin at 1 p.m., with registration at noon.
    The Lawrence  Branch of the Van Buren District Library will hold a book sale on Monday, Labor Day, as well as Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. A book pre-sale will be held Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
    Monday, Labor Day, a parade at 11 a.m., the Lawrence United Methodist Church Chicken Dinner at noon, the handing out of “free Ox Roast sandwiches”  at 1:30 p.m., and music by Nathan Douglas with the Fine Line Band, a Duck  Race and raffle drawing, highlight the day.
    A variety of free music and entertainment will be featured under the park pavilion all weekend.
