Some fun at SUMMERFEST!

The Banana Car tooled folks around town, but needed a break in the early afternoon, requiring its driver to take look under the peel.

The village of Lawton lit up in so many ways Saturday that the 2019 Summerfest celebration needed cooling down by a couple of pop-up thunderstorms midway through the day. But little could deter from the community spirit, cooperation, and participation in a town-ful of activities. Classic cars lined Main Street, children waited patiently to have their faces painted, and the Lawton firefighters hosted several area departments to endure the foggy spray of waterball face-offs.  Traditionally held on the Fourth of July weekend, the days events concluded with a street dance featuring the Bronk Bros. leading up to fireworks.

The sun shone on Lawton’s Summerfest last Saturday, even after and in between passing bursts of rain.  Many came for early morning strolls among the classic cars, while others waited until the evening events, kicked off by a character-filled Summerfest parade. Other special attractions for the kids included the Shriners Clowns twisting skinny balloons into animals and other fun stuff.  The Banana Car tooled folks around town, but needed a break in the early afternoon, requiring its driver to take look under the peel.  Arts and crafts filled the fire hall and spilled out into tents along Main Street; dunkers at the dunk tank delighted in dumping familiar dunkees. Magic, music and food filled out a perfect summer festival.
