Antwerp Township Seniors

Nearly 200 people were served a turkey dinner with all the trimmings, as part of the Antwerp Seniors program, Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the Antwerp Activity Center. The turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing, and gravy were prepared by Premier Catering. Pies were purchased from Sam’s Club. Everything else was provided by participants who signed up for items to donate.
A huge table of appetizers, vegetable dishes, cranberry relishes, muffins, fruit salads, baked beans, deviled eggs, and pickles helped feed everyone present.
Meals were served by volunteers from Mattawan Consolidate School and Antwerp Township staff. Music during the meal was provided by Mattawan School’s Jazz Artist in Residence, Zack Meyers on keyboard and sophomore Calvin Hinds, playing the guitar.
After the meal, the Antwerp senior citizens were entertained by selected members of the Mattawan choir program, led by David Hook, director of choirs and Zack Meyers, director of theater.
The vocal jazz group, Muse under the direction of Hook performed first, followed by individuals, who performed tunes of their own choice, accompanied by Meyers. Soloists included juniors Lexi Mohney, Liddie Basch, Alice Boesky, Nicole Mrozek, Caleb Mitchell, and Regan Washburn; sophomore Eric Waters, and senior Chris Hook.
The audience was impressed by the level of professionalism and style the entertainers displayed. Senior citizens are looking forward to the choir’s return in December for a second performance during the Antwerp Christmas meal on Dec. 19.
