MATTAWAN - The Mattawan Lions Club marked its eighth year helping host the Dawn Patrol Fly- In/Drive- In Breakfast, held last Saturday, Aug. 25, at Newmans Field.
While the rain kept planes away, organizers said many people attended the event, which serves as one of the Mattawan Lions Club’s biggest fundraisers of the year. With funds raised from the event, the Lions Club is able to support, through its 11-B-2 District, diabetes awareness, pediatric cancer, LCI Foundation, Lions of Michigan Foundation, Eversight Michigan, Leader Dogs For The Blind, Paws With A Cause, Camp Leo, Bear Lake Camp, Lions of Michigan All-State Band and LMF Project KidSight.
Funds are  also used for two scholarships to local Mattawan High School seniors, to help pay for glasses and exams for those who can't afford it or have no insurance, and other community needs.
