Holiday Carnival set for Dec. 7 in Mattawan

   MATTAWAN - The Mattawan Lions Club and Foundation will partner with the Mattawan Business Association (MBA), Antwerp Sunshine Library and Friends of Antwerp Township Sunshine Library, Mattawan Boy Scout Troop 161 and Mattawan Girl Scouts to host its first Holiday Carnival. The event will be held Dec. 7, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Antwerp Activity Center, 24821 Front Ave., Mattawan.
   The carnival is free, and the first 300 kids will receive a stocking from Santa and Mrs. Claus. The event will feature holiday-themed carnival games and prizes. Project Kidsight, a free vision screening program for children, ages six months to five years, is a Mattawan Lions Club project conducted by its volunteers.
   Also during the event, children will be able to decorate cookies and have cocoa, cookies and popcorn. Those attending  will have an opportunity to visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus. Parents will be able to take  photos.
   “We are very excited to provide this free event for the kids and hope we get a good turnout,” said Kayla Ranger-Dean of the Mattawan Business Association.
   Karol Chopp of the Mattawan Lions Club and Foundation  said, “We have had a great amount of support from our businesses in the MBA and think this will turn into a great tradition in our town.”
