Mattawan Police will have new cruiser

    MATTAWAN - The Mattawan Village Council Monday night approved the purchase of a new police cruiser for its police department.
    Council members approved  the purchase of a 2019 Dodge Charger for $24,554, to be purchased through the state bid  process. When fully equipped, the  vehicle cost will be $28,560. The police department is ex-pected to take delivery of the new vehicle in six to eight weeks.
    In another area, the  council approved the removal of six trees  located throughout the village. Council members accepted a bid of $5,050 from JC & Sons, Decatur, who will perform the work, which includes cutting, grinding and clean-up of wood chips.
    Council members also ap-proved the Junior Friends start-up of a butterfly garden next spring that will be located on village-owned property west of the village hall. Council members gave their okay for the Junior Friends to purchase wildflower seeds that will be planted at the site, as well as the purchase of appropriate signage.
    In another area, council member Carol Daly submitted her resignation as chairperson of the council’s Zoning and Ordinance Committee.
