PAW PAW - Van Buren County Commissioners on Tuesday gave the go-ahead to place three county millage requests on the March 2020 county-wide ballot.
The three requests include two millage renewals for Van Buren Public Transit and the Van Buren County Road Commission. The third is a millage request by the Soldiers & Sailors Relief Commission to place a millage proposal on the March 10 ballot.
The  public transit millage will ask voters to continue to levy 0.2471 mill for four years, 2020 to 2023, which was previously approved by voters to fund public transportation services, but which expired with the 2019 levy.
It is estimated that the 0.2471 mill would raise approximately $800,000 when first levied in 2020.
The road commission road millage renewal seeks to continue to levy 0.9769 mill which was previously approved by voters to fund road maintenance, repair and reconstruction. It expired with the 2019 levy.
It is estimated that the revenue generated on this proposal will be $3,320,282 in the first millage year of the levy.
The Veterans Services millage seeks to approve by .10 mill ($0.10 per thousand dollars of taxable value), for a period of four years, 2020 to 2023. The  millage will provide funds for operations and services dedicated to veterans who have served honorably on active duty in the United States Armed Forces.
It is estimated that the 0.10 mill  would raise approximately $339,744 when first levied in 2020.
