United Way kicks off VITA program with Show Me the Money

   PAW PAW - Show Me the Money Day is an annual state-wide event that kicks off Van Buren County’s VITA free tax season. It is designed to promote financial capability for community members. The event is free and features breakout sessions, food, and prizes.
   Show Me the Money Day (SMTMD) events, in 2018 reached 2,450 Michigan residents. Seventy-two percent of participants surveyed reported feeling more hopeful about their financial future after attending Show Me the Money Day.
   The 2019 Van Buren County event, to be held Jan. 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.,  will offer valuable information on credit repair, free tax preparation, fair housing, banking options and home ownership.it will be held at Freshwater Community Church (Common Room), 600 E. Michigan Ave., Paw Paw.
   At the event, vendors will help people with financial empowerment, and according to James Sebree, Show Me the Money Day spokesperson, “when you are financially empowered, you are both informed and skilled. “We want to provide them with access and choices. Building confidence with financial products and services that meet their needs is the goal,” said Sebree.
   He added, “We have assembled trusted financial and service agencies who will help community members begin to build financial stability in their lives. Having all these resources in one place can make it easier for them.”
