PAW PAW - Following an earlier public hearing, the  Paw Paw Township Board Jan. 8, approved a resolution to “opt in” for medical marijuana licensing.
The board approved the measure in a 3-2 vote, with Clerk Linda Jordan and  Trustee Fran Sanders casting “no” votes. Voting in favor were Township Supervisor Don Stull, Treasurer Angela Hazzard and Trustee Matthew Miller.
During the public hearing, resident Marilyn Murphy told board members that she will pursue a license for medical marijuana growing and processing.
Following the vote, board members were surprised that that no one turned out  for the public hearing.
The board began the process  of developing a Township Police Power Ordinance.
Once  the ordinance is drafted, the Paw Paw Township Planning Commission will hold an public hearing on the issue, and will give its recommendation back to the Paw Paw Township Board.
During public comment, Michelle Davis, representing Senior Services of Van Burin County,  addressed questions from the board regarding resolutions for millage renewal and increase.
The board  approved a resolution to place the issue on the August ballot.
