PORTER  TWP. - A 37-year-old  Paw Paw drowned  Wednesday afternoon in a Porter Township Lake, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said that at approximately 2:44 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 29000 block of Shaw Road in  reference to a male in Cedar Lake who was in distress.
Abbott said a Cedar Lake resident saw a boat going in circles on the lake and the victim was in distress in the water,  yelling for help. The resident called 911 and attempted to help the victim, but was unable to reach him.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, along with relatives of the victim, who  were boating on the lake, and  pulled the victim, who was not breathing, from the water.
Life-saving measures were attempted; however, the victim was later pronounced deceased at Bronson LakeView Hospital, Paw Paw.

The incident, which is not considered suspicious, remains under investigation.
Assisting agencies at the scene included Michigan State Police, Van Buren Emergency Medical Services, Lawton Fire Department, and Lawton Quick Response.
