For those exploring family history... VBDL OFFERS “FOLD3” ONLINE RESOURCE

DECATUR - Van Buren District Library announces a new service for family historians, genealogists, teachers, veterans and others researching military history and service records. Fold3, an online repository of millions of stories, photos and personal documents of the men and women who served, is easily accessible with a VBDL card.
According to Local History Librarian Amy Druskovich, Fold3 helps researchers discover and share stories about everyday heroes, forgotten soldiers and the families who supported them.
“Fold3 is an invaluable resource that offers access to military records from the Revolutionary War through the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. An additional benefit to the site,” Druskovich says, “is the ability to save information to a family tree in a personal Ancestry.com account.”
Fold3 also provides documents from international sources such as Australian service records from World Wars I and II, biographies of British casualties who fought in India, and records from the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
For those researching more otherworldly topics, Fold3 features Project Blue Book’s UFO Investigations.
The site may be accessed with a valid library card through the library’s website, VBDL.org.
For more information, phone (269) 423-4771 or visit the Toni I. Benson Room of Local History and Genealogy at VBDL Webster Memorial in Decatur.  The Benson Room is open to the public Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
