PAW PAW - Van Buren County Commissioners on Tuesday afternoon approved a collaborative agreement  between Western Michigan University and Van Buren County for all medical examiner office services required by state laws.
The agreement calls for all operational personnel to be  physically located at the WMU School of Medicine.
Commissioners said the  agreement would improve services to the funeral home, police agencies and the general public.
The first year contract is $77,835, with a two-percent increase annually.
Commissioners approved the purchase of  a new VDI server for equalization and the treasurer’s office in an amount not to exceed $55,000.
The purpose of the program is to streamline the tax assessment routines between the county and local units, eliminating  redundancies in the current processing of daily information, thus providing cost savings.
Commissioners approved the two-year  appointment  of  William VanTassell, of Mattawan, to fill a vacancy on the Van Buren Land Preservation Board.
Commissioners approved a two-year  agreement with  the Domestic Violence Coalition, effective March 14, through March 14, 2019.
The board  currently gives Domestic Violence a $15,000 appropriation annually.
