Private Brandon Leighton graduated basic combat training at Fort Sill in Oklahoma on August 17, 2018. He is the son of Gordy and Marisa Leighton of Lawton, and a 2018 graduate of Lawton High School. During his 10 weeks of basic training, Private Leighton studied the Army mission, history, tradition, and core values along with physical fitness training, instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, foot marches, and field training exercises. Private Leighton is now attending advanced individual training at Fort Sam Houston to become a combat medic specialist, and will be joining the ranks of his older brother, Derek, who is also an Army Soldier Medic.
