GySgt Robert G. Root

    GySgt. Robert (Bob) Grant Root, USMC Ret., 77, of Tavares, FL, died Monday, March 27, 2017, at The Promise Hospital in Oxford, FL. He was born Sept. 25, 1939, in Paw Paw, the oldest child of the late Grant O. Root and Pearl V. (Easterling) Root.
      After graduation from Paw Paw High School in 1957, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, and married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline Louise Ambs. Together,  they had three children, daughter, Catherine Marie Root of Lugoff, SC; son, Robert Lee (Edie) Root of Elgin, SC; and son, Edward Scott Root of Chesterfield, VA.
    In addition to his children, Bob is survived by his younger brother, Jack (Patty) Root of Coloma, MI; step-mother,  Jo-anne Root of Paw Paw; brother, Steven Root of Paw Paw;  grandchildren, Carrie, Robert, and Erin; and great-grandchildren, Collin and Thea.
    Bob served his country with honor for over 20 years, and retired in 1977 to enter employment with the law firm of Sullivan and Cromwell in Washington, D.C., where he retired in 2005 and relocated to Tavares, FL, where he embarked on his final career – golf, a daily regimented routine, and just doing whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.
    Bob is predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Betty Root Hartman.
    Bob will be missed by friends and acquaintances, old and new. A small remembrance will be held May 5, at 12:30 p.m. at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden, SC.  www.kornegayfuneral.com. Burial with military honors will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC, on May 5, at 2 p.m.

    In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors charity in Honor of Robert Grant Root.
