Paul G. Makay

    Paul Gerard Makay, 64, of Decatur, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 24, 2019, at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo.
    Services were held Monday at Newell Chapel, 83313 M-51, Decatur, with Pastor Katie Hartwell officiating.
     Paul was born October 4, 1955 in Dowagiac to Michael and Dorothy (Copeman) Makay. He graduated from Decatur High School, class of 1974. He started his career in general construction with his brothers, but eventually started his own business, Makay Construction, Inc., in 1978.  
    Paul was a skilled glazer and craftsman who always was working on a project, and always willing to lend a hand when needed. Paul enjoyed being in nature, road trips to Kentucky, and especially being “Pops” to his daughters and grandsons.
    He will be dearly missed by his wife, Karen (Dahms) Makay, whom he married September 25, 1982, in Decatur; his daughters, Katelin Makay of Decatur, and Margaret (Dr. Timothy) Joseph; his grandsons, Liam and Wyatt Joseph of Rochester, MN.; and his siblings, Loretta (Jim) Doroh, Tony (Nira) Makay, and Geri (Rob) Edwards; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ramsay (Jane Hayes) Makay, and his parents.
