Shirley L. Shane

    Shirley L. Shane, 90, of Kalamazoo, died Oct. 10, 2019, at Amber Way, Heritage Community, Kalamazoo.         Shirley was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Minot, ND, the daughter of Haskell and Ruby (Stogner) Manes. She was a secretary at St. Joseph Church for 13 years and volunteered for many groups including, Girl Scouts, Diocese of Kalamazoo and St. Joseph Church, where she served as Eucharistic Minister, Lector and editor of the parish newsletter. Shirley was also past president of the SW Michigan Pharmacists’ Association Auxiliary, Borgess Service League and Ladies Library Association.
    She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles in 2015; daughter, Kate Shane in 2017; and by an infant brother, James.     Members of her family include six children, Mary Bellinger, Jean Shane, Michael Shane (Terrence Jezowski), John (Brenda) Shane, Charlie (Teri) Shane and Richard (Terri) Shane; 11 grandchildren; six  great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  The family would like to the thank the staff of Amber Way and Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan for their loving care.
    Visit with family and friends on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. at Betzler Life Story Funeral Home, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo (269) 375-2900 where a Prayer Service will be held at 5 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church. A luncheon will follow in the church hall with burial at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
