Trinity students are local winners of “America & Me” essay contest

    PAW PAW - Three students from Trinity Lutheran School in Paw Paw have been named local winners in the 48th annual America & Me Essay Contest sponsored by Farm Bureau Insurance.  
    The three students who earned first, second, and third place awards for their school are Makayla Trumbull, first; Madison Reynolds, second; and Justina Thrasher, third.
    Trumbull’s first place essay now advances to the state level competition, from which the top 10 essays in Michigan will be selected.  The top 10 state-wide winners will be announced in April.
    Several thousand eighth grade students from nearly 400 Michigan schools participated in the 2016-2017 American and Me Essay Contest, conducted with the help of Farm Bureau Insurance agents across the state.
    Brian Lietzau, a Farm Bureau  Insurance agent from Paw Paw, has sponsored the students at Trinity for the last four years.
    The topic of the 2016-2017 contest was “My Personal Michigan Hero.”
    Started in 1968 and open to all eighth grade students, the contest encourages Michigan young people to explore  the United States and its people.
    As sponsors of the contest, Farm Bureau has earned 11 national awards from the Freedom Foundation at Valley Forge.
