For the first time in over 20 years, the Lawrence Tiger softball team made an appearance in the Regional tournament.
Lawrence faced the Kal-amazoo Christian Comets in the semifinal round and took an early two run lead. Unfortunately, they  couldn’t stop the Comets in the batter’s box, and eventually lost the game, 5-2, their tournament run, and season ended.
The Tigers quickly got things moving in the game. Leadoff hitter, Erika Gonzalez, got on base with a single to second; then put herself in scoring position by stealing second and third. Senior Valerie Norris brought her teammate home with a single fly ball to right field. Lawrence recorded one more run when, Norris’  courtesy runner, Kali Reed, stole home on a passed ball. After their first at-bat the Tigers held a two-run lead.
But Kalamazoo Chris-tian  also got things moving offensively. The Comets took the lead when they scored on a triple, a double, and an RBI. The hits gave them a 4-2 lead. The Comets held the two-run lead until the bottom of the fifth inning when they scored their final run off of a long double to centerfield.
The Tigers tried their best to get on base, but the Comets stopped every ball put into play.
Norris took the loss for the Tigers, pitching six innings, allowing five runs, nine hits, and striking out eight Comets.
