The Lawton softball team, hosting the District tournament, opened play against Kalamazoo Hackett and made a quick and easy game of it, with a 9-0 victory.
The Lady Blue Devils had just played Hackett a couple of weeks ago, crushing the Irish in the first game, but needing a big inning late in the second game to top them.  This District game was more like the former than the latter.
For the first two innings, the game was knotted up at zero. Hackett’s struggle may well have been Lawton pitcher Gabby Hall, who held them to two hits for the game.
In the third inning, the Lady Blue Devils got their big girl bats out and knocked in eight runs.  With Hall striking out 14 Irish batters and giving up zero walks,  Hackett’s offense never got going.
Six different players contributed Lawton’s six hits, including Kadence Bassett’s  triple deep to the fence late in the game for an RBI. The Blue Devils will play Parchment on the Lawton field tomorrow (Saturday) at noon. The winner will be the District champion.
