The Gobles softball team played against host Decatur last Saturday in Districts.
In the third inning, trailing 4-0, the Tigers’ Libbee Nason reached base on an error, followed by an Emily Lopez single.  Maddy Tiller singled, scoring Nason, to put the Tigers on the board.  Tatum Miller had a fielder’s choice to score a run.  Freshman Emily Baxter hit a two-run home run to put the Tigers in front 5-4.
Going into the seventh inning, with Gobles up 6-5, Decatur scored to tie it up.  The Tigers could not answer and sent the game into extra innings.
In the top of the ninth inning, things got ugly for the Tigers, who committed six errors and gave up 10 runs. Gobles managed to score one run in the bottom of the ninth, but lost to Decatur, 16-7.
“The season didn’t end like we wanted it to..., but there were so many great plays and fun times that this team will certainly recover,” said Gobles Coach Pam Westcott. “We’re already looking forward to next season.”
Gobles senior Emily Lopez took the loss in the circle, going nine innings, giving up nine hits and striking out 10 batters.
At the plate for the Tigers, Lopez was 3-4,  Tiller 2-5, Baxter 2-5 (HR) and Nason 1-5.
