Tuesday evening brought two wins for the Lawrence Tiger baseball team, hosting the Watervliet Panthers for their final home games of the season.
The opener resulted in a final inning 1-0 win for the Tigers. During the bottom of the seventh, with the game scoreless, Jakob Edson found himself on base after being walked. He was able to steal second to put himself in scoring position, and Ethan Payment stepped up with a long single to center field on a 3-1 count. The hit gave the Tigers the win.
Earning the shutout win for the Tigers was Dylan Matheny. The senior threw the entire game, allowing only one hit while striking out nine.
Watervliet got things moving quickly during their first at bat of the nightcap. The Panthers took a two-run lead in the opening inning.  But the Tigers didn’t allow Watervliet to hold the lead for very long, tying the game in the bottom of the first inning. Dylan Matheny hit a sacrifice fly out to bring in Jakob Edson to tie the game at two runs apiece.
Lawrence regained the lead in the bottom of the third inning. The Tigers quickly loaded the bases with a single and two batters in a row being hit by a pitch. A double from Alan Macyauski brought in the two runners. A total of four runs in the third inning would give Lawrence a 6-2 lead.
The Lawrence kept the Panthers from scoring again, while plating two more runs for an 8-2 win.
Alan Macyauski and Chris Schuman each had two hits.
