Paw Paw walks all over Delton-Kellogg
PAW PAW - In baseball, at any level, strong pitching will usually add a “W” to a team’s season record. Tuesday afternoon, Paw Paw hurlers performed very well, and sure enough, the result was an easy 11-1 victory over Delton-Kellogg. The contest literally was won in a walk – or rather, 13 walks by Panther pitchers. Combined with six Redskin hits and a total of eight stolen bases, it was a strong all-around performance by the home team.
Paw Paw scored in five of their six innings at bat, including a five-run fifth frame that pretty much put the game away. Kyle Downard, Tyler Pursley, and Caleb Schmitt all worked on the mound for the ’Skins, between them allowing just two hits and one run, while fanning eight Panther batters.
Jimmy Wressel was nearly a one-man show going two for three, with a double, three RBI, three runs, and four stolen bases. Whether it was needed or not, he got a lot of help from his teammates. Kyle Downard accounted for two RBI with a double and two bases on balls, Zack Callahan added a two-base hit, three walks plus an RBI. Pursley and Jack Westerhoff each added a hit to the team total, while the team played nearly flawlessly in the field.
