Redskins shut out G-A and Bronson

   The Paw Paw baseball team defeated Galesburg-Augusta, 13-4, last week to push the Redskins’ early season record to 3-0.  Michael Hiestand earned the victory on the mound pitching three strong inn-ings, allowing three hits and no earned runs while striking out four G-A batters. Caleb Bowen pitched the final four innings, allowing no hits and striking out four. 
   The Paw Paw hitting attack was led by Tyler Wressel, Tony Bianchetti, and Devon Surdy. Wressel went 2-4, including two deep shots that resulted in a double and triple, and two RBI. 
   Bianchetti went 2-2 with a double and an RBI; and Surdy, 2-3 with two RBI. Kurtis Carr added a double with three walks and three runs scored. Jack Westerhoff and Jason Rocz each added a single and and RBI; Nolan Beck, a double and and RBI.


   At home last Tuesday, the Redskins claimed a 10-0 victory over state-ranked Bronson. Senior Caleb Schmitt went the distance for Paw Paw, hurling five shutout innings, and yielding only one base hit while striking out five. 
   The Redskins had eleven hits in the game, with Kurtis Carr, Wressel, Zack Callahan and Bowen leading the way with two hits each. Carr, Schmitt and Surdy each knocked in two runs, and Nolan Beck scored three runs. Carr and Beck also accounted for a stolen base.
