Paw Paw JVs called to fill in against Bridgman

PAW PAW - The Paw Paw varsity basketball team hosted Bridg-man for a rare matinee game Friday afternoon, playing gravely short-handed due to the absence of seven regular players who were involved in a melee at South Haven the week before. Redskins Karsen Barnhart, Finlay Tate, Andrew Vorce, Levi Penning, Nate Harden, Jack Westerhoff, and Augi Sylvester did not dress for the game; the result was a 55-40 loss to the Bees.
Coach Rick Mitchell’s revised roster included one senior, two juniors, and seven sophomores.  It did not include any of his top three point shooters thus far in the season, but did put into action Jose Petino, Charles Miller, Gabe Brown, Aaron Hayes, and Landen Harris, who were all brought up from the junior varsity squad. Overall, it was not a bad loss for the Redskins, considering the makeshift lineup.
The Bees opened a 12-5 first period lead and basically maintained it for the rest of the game. The four remaining Paw Paw varsity players were responsible for 35 of the team’s 40 total points scored, including a game-high 12 points by Caleb Bowen. He was followed by Jedidiah Despan with 11, Justin Baird with seven, and Kayden McClish with five. Sophomore call-ups Hayes and Petino netted three and two points, respectively.
