LAWRENCE - After fulfilling a two-year contract in the North Central Thumb League for Eight-Man football, next  year, the Lawrence Tigers Eight-Man football team will play in a new league much closer to home ...  southwestern Michigan, to be exact.
According to Lawrence Public Schools’ Athletic Director Aaron Amthor, who will serve as the league’s new commissioner, it was about a month ago when he approached all the schools that are in the conference and “floated the idea” to  form a league in Southwest Michigan.
The new league will be made up of the following schools:
Bridgman, Lake Michigan Catholic, Martin, Michigan Lutheran, New Buffalo, and Wyoming Tri-Unity Christian.
“We all sat down and discussed the possibility of the league and agreed that it would be beneficial for our kids and districts to form a local league,” said Amthor. “We will cross over in weeks one, two, and nine, with teams of the Southwestern Central Athletic Association  (SCAA).
“I believe that this is a very positive step in the right direction for Eight-Man player football and I am excited for the opportunities that it will bring for our athletes.”
