The Mattawan football team finished off the regular season with a big 32-6 win over Lakeshore that secured a spot in the playoffs for the Wildcats and knocked the Lancers out of the running. Halfway through the season, Mattawan looked to be out of any post-season activity; but won four straight games to get back to the playoffs for the third-straight year.
Senior quarterback Jalen Jones helped the Wildcats take an early lead  by finding his way into the endzone on a keeper in the first quarter. The extra point gave Mattawan a 7-0 lead to end the quarter. During the second quarter, Jones hit Noah Janssen with a pass at the Lakeshore 11-yard line. Fourth down came quickly for Mattawan; however, and kicker Luke Warren was called to put the ball through the middle of the uprights for a Mattawan 10-0 lead at halftime.
The third quarter would bring the most points for Mattawan. Junior Parker Hoffman got the momentum going after hauling in an interception on the Lakeshore 22-yard line. A penalty on the Lancers moved the ball up to the 6-yard line, and the Wildcats scored when Jones found Holden Kellogg, who held onto the ball on a diving catch in the endzone. With four minutes left in the period, Mattawan led 17-0.
The Wildcats were strong on both sides of the field. Tony Thomas broke up a fourth-down Lakeshore pass forcing the Lancers to turn the ball over on downs.
Before the quarter ended, Jones found Janssen again and he ran his way into the endzone for a 51-yard play. With a two-point conversion, Mattawan held a comfortable 25-0 lead.
The quarter offered the Lancers their only score of the game, they failed on their two-point conversion attempt and Mattawan led 25-6, heading into the final 12 minutes. Mattawan finished the regular season with a 5-4 record.
