Longtime teacher and coach Chad Yager has been named the new Mattawan High School Athletic Director. He replaces Ken Mohney.
Yager, who teaches pre-Algebra and Algebra 1 at the high school, has coached football, wrestling, and baseball for 12 years at MHS. He had started the 2017-18 season as an assistant football coach. Yager was notified on Friday of his new position.
As the new AD, Yager said he doesn’t “need to reinvent the wheel. Mattawan has a good athletics program already. I just want to make it better.
“I want the spirit to be up. I want the students to be around. I want to make sure that everything here is all about the kids,” Yager said.
As Thursday’s soccer game against St. Joseph wrapped up Yager was spotted picking up corner flags off the field. “It’s all hands-on for me,” he explained. “I spent the second half over with our students. Our Mattawan kids are outstanding.”
