The Paw Paw competitive cheer team returned to the MHSAA State competition at the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids Saturday to achieve the team’s highest finish there in Paw Paw High School history.
The Lady Redskins were motivated all year long to focus on perfection, and easily dominated all but a couple teams during the regular season. They captured the District championship and second place at Regionals, which poured fuel on their fire to achieve more.
Competing among the best eight teams in Division 3, the Paw Paw girls performed for their best first round score yet at a State competition, finishing in fourth place, only 2.1 points out of third.
In Round 2, the steady Redskins threw down a round  that kept them in the hunt for a top three finish; then,  struggled in the high-flying third round and scored 298.7. A sub-300 score at State can spell doom for any team; but Paw Paw slipped only one spot to fifth, still the best finish of any Redskin squad yet.
The Lady Redskins have made it to the State finals nine out of the last 10 years. Coach Stefanie Miller got there this year with a very young group of girls - mostly freshmen and sophomores, a couple of juniors.  Miller does not draw attention to how young this team is, as its members have matured and improved with their experience and will return next year even more hungry and determined to succeed.
