GIRLS LACROSSE: Mattawan slams DeWitt
Mattawan’s girls lacrosse team got right to winning after Spring Break, handing the visitors from DeWitt a 16-7 loss in relatively easy fashion.
The Wildcats took the lead early in the game and kept building on it until the Panthers were in survival mode.
Coach Matt Stevens commented after the game that while they are still searching for a way to fill the void of losing the school’s most prolific scorer from last year, the Wildcats are doing very well in transition on defense, keeping their opponents from converting downfield.
Another big asset for the Lady Wildcats against DeWitt was goalie Lauren Brush, who had a total of 14 shots on goal and was able to stop half of them. According to Stevens, a goalie who stops 50 percent of the shots has done an amazing job.
Posting the best offensive numbers for the night were Grace Hazelhoff with four goals on five shots (80 percent) and one assist, and Addie Pastor with four goals on seven shots (75 percent) and one assist. Adding goals to the blue and gold total were Monique Vale with three, and Grace Brady and Alexa Gravitter with two each.
