The Mattawan Wildcat boys soccer team is now 8-2-2 on the season after its game against the Battle Creek Lakeview Spartans ended in  a 1-1 tie.
As the final score would indicate, the majority of the game was a back-and-forth battle. Mattawan tried its best to find the back of the net during the first half. Early in the game, Connor Burkett found Joshua Filiputti who sent a shot toward the goal, the Lakeview goalie put a stop to every shot the Wildcats put on the goal.
Mattawan goal keeper, junior Carson Foor did an equal job keeping every Spartan shot out of the Wildcats’ net, and the game was scoreless at halftime.
The Mattawan offense opened up the second half in full force. Burkett leveled several shots on goal, all of which were just short of getting past the Lakeview goalie. But the Wildcats managed to take a one-goal lead with 26 minutes left to play in the second half and continued to put more close shots on the goal.
As time wore down, Mattawan was able to keep the Spartans from scoring until just minutes were left in the game, when Lakeview worked its way down field and got past the Mattawan defense to tie the game. Neither team was able to score again.
