Last week the Mattawan girls’ soccer team dominated the Battle Creek Central right from the start. By halftime, the Wildcats had earned an eight-goal lead for a mercy rule 8-0 win, improving their record to 4-2-2.
It took only a few minutes for Mattawan to take a lead over the Bearcats. With her Wildcats already up 2-0,  Natalie Martinic scored a solo goal, followed by junior Ashlynn Carter’s back-to-back goals, giving the Wildcats a 5-0 lead.
With five minutes left in the half, Mattawan’s Sophie Ross was fouled in the goalie box, which resulted in a free kick. The senior had no problem finding the back of the Battle Creek net, for a Mattawan 6-0 lead. The Wildcats’ final two goals came within a minute of each other, when Jenna Bussott and Lauren Sysol each scored solo goals.
The win wasn’t the only shut-out for the Wildcats this week. On Monday evening,  Mattawan blanked the visiting Stevensville Lakeshore Lancers, 3-0.
Friday, the Wildcats traveled to Kalamazoo, facing the 4-6 Loy Norrix Knights.
