The Lawrence Tiger softball team hosted Watervliet for a doubleheader Tuesday, dropping both games, 5-3, and 15-1.
The first game was scoreless until the third inning, when Camila Mancera opened up with a single to right field for Lawrence. Erika Gonzales followed with a double to center field, bringing in Mancera and giving Lawrence a one-run lead.    Watervliet answered with a run in their next at bat, and the game was tied at 1-1, until the bottom of the fifth inning when Lawrence scored again. Cata-lina Mancera found her way around the bases after hitting a double, then took advantage of errors by the Panthers. Camila Mancera also scored on her visitors’ errors after hitting a single. The two runs by the sisters gave Lawrence a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning.
But Watervliet scored two runs in the six and seventh innings to go home with a 5-3 win.
Valerie Norris pitched the game for Lawrence, lasting all seven innings. She allowed only five hits and struck out 13 batters.
Watervliet took an early one run lead in the second inning of the second game. During the same inning the Tigers were able to tie the game when, with one out, Peyton Murney hit a triple to right field to put her in scoring position. Murney scored the Tigers’ only run of the game on a passed ball at home.
But Watervliet couldn’t be stopped. The Panthers quickly scored eight runs to secure a large lead. The game would end after Watervliet scored six more runs in the fifth inning giving them the 15-1 win.
