Gobles’ softball team overcame a slow start and their own errors to sweep the Saugatuck Indians, 14-4 and 13-3, in a Tuesday night doubleheader.
Early in the first game, the Tigers had a couple of errors paired with some Indian hits to fall behind 3-0.  But Gobles bounced back,  scoring five runs over the first three innings.
The game was messy overall. Gobles committed four errors and the Indians, eight of their own.
In the fourth inning, the Tigers erupted for eight runs, led by Amanda Barber, Emily Lopez, Tatum Miller, Maddy Brady, Destiny Woodard and Maddy Tiller all knocking in runs.
Gobles had five hits to Saugatuck’s six hits.  Libbee Nason, Woodard, Tille, Baxter and Barber, each had one hit.  Lopez was the winning pitcher, going five innings, allowing five hits, and striking out four Saugatuck batters.
In the nightcap, Gobles’ six-run second inning set the pace. The inning was driven by a walk from Victoria Fenton, a single by Mckenzie Lisowski and a home run by Emily Baxter.  The Tigers won easily, 13-3.
In total, Gobles pounded out nine hits to Saugatuck’s seven.  Nason 2 hits (triple), Lisowski 2 hits, Woodard 1 hit (DBL), Baxter 1 hit (HR), Lopez 2 hits and Fenton 1 hit.
Lopez again was the winning pitcher, finishing four  innings, allowing four hits.  Barber came in relief to pitch one inning.
