The Mattawan Wildcat volleyball team secured a spot in the semi-final round of the Division 1 District tournament by defeating the St. Joe Bears, 3-0. The Wildcats had faced St. Joe earlier in the season with the same 3-0 winning result. State and nationally ranked, the Wildcats wasted no time earning a 25-11 win in the opening set.
Senior Kathryn Puzevic helped Mattawan to a comfortable 8-1 lead with a kill in the second set. The Wildcat offense stayed strong and sophomore Margaret Pelak delivered a kill of her own, making the score 17-8  Mattawan.
This second game was ended by Natalie Foster scoring the last points for the Wildcats in the 25-12 second set win. Foster continued to show her dominance in the final set. The junior laid down two kills to give Mattawan a 7-3 early lead, while her teammates held the Bears to only 11 points. The Wildcats earned their semifinal spot with a 25-11 win, improving their already impressive record to 44-2.
