Dophiede and Maynard will represent Lawton at State
The Lawton track team traveled to Centreville on Saturday for the Regional meet. Megan Dophiede in the girls pole vault and Harrison Maynard in the 110m hurdles not only qualified for State competition, but also walked away as Regional champions in their events.
Maynard finished first in both his preliminary and final heats in the 110m hurdles edging out his Bloom-ingdale competitor 16.56 to 16.63 for the top spot. He also qualified for State in the 300m hurdles.
Dophiede was steady in her approach to the pole vault competition. She cleared each height in one attempt, up to nine feet. At nine feet, Dophiede had one miss, then stepped right up and easily cleared nine feet three inches. Her two competitors from Constantine both missed the height, giving Dophiede the Regional crown. Dophiede will also compete at the State meet in the 400m run.
The two Lawton seniors will make the trip to Jenison High School for the Divi-sion 3 State track meet on Saturday, June 1.
